Valley of Flowers is a fairy-land situated high in the Himalayas of the Uttarakhand, at an altitude of 3,600 meters above the sea-level, protected by snowy mountains. Unknown to humans, for centuries this enchanting valley lay frozen during the colder months, and burst into its youthful beauty every year, as the snow melted with the advent of summer. Every year, the valley was splashed with color as it bloomed with hundreds of kinds of flowers, taking on various shades of colors as months progressed. Finally one day, nature condescended to bless humans with this heavenly sight, when Frank Smith - mountaineer, explorer, and botanist - chanced upon it in the monsoon of 1931. He authored a book called "The Valley of Flowers" which unveiled the beauty and floral splendors of the valley and made the world sit up and watch. It was declared a national park in 1982, and now it is a World Heritage Site. The locals, of course, always knew of the existence of the valley, and believed that it was inhabited by fairies. The valley is home to many celebrated flowers like the Brahmakamal, the Blue Poppy and the Cobra Lily. It is a much sought after haunt for flower-lovers, botanists and of course trekkers, for whom a sufficient excuse to embark on a mission to reach a place, is that it exists!
Velly of Flower Trek Itinerary
DAY 01. DELHI - RISHIKESH. (By Train/Flight)
Arrive Haridwar, transfer to Rishikesh and check into hotel. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
DAY O2. RISHIKESH - JOSHIMATH DRIVE: 9-10 HRS.
Early morning drive to Joshimath. The entire drive is along the Alaknanda River. Lunch enroute at Rudraparayag. Arrive Joshimath and transfer to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 03. JOSHIMATH - GHANGARIA DRIVE 2hr & TREK: 14km: 6 HRS.
Early morning after breakfast drive to Govindghat, a small hamlet situated on the confluence of Alaknanda and roaring Laxman Ganga. Arrive and commence trek to Ghangaria. Lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight Hotel.
DAY 04. GHANGARIA - VALLEY OF FLOWERS TREK: 6-7 HRS.
Morning after breakfast start trek to Valley of Flowers. The first part of the trek is through thick forest along the Pushpavati River. Later we trek in the open meadow. Arrive and explore the area. After encountering rare Flowers e.g. Brahmkamal, Blue poppy, Potentilla, and hundreds of others we trace our steps back to the base camp, Ghangaria. Dinner and overnight Hotel.
DAY 05. GHANGARIA - HEMKUND SAHIB TREK: 12km: 6-7HRS.
Morning after breakfast we trek to Hemkund, one of the finest high latitude lakes in the area, and pilgrimage for Sikhs and Hindus as well. The entire trek today is uphill till we reach Hemkund. Explore the area and trace your steps back to the base camp. One can encounter some of the flowers on this stretch as well. Dinner and overnight Hotel.
DAY 06. GHANGARIA - GOVINDGHAT - BADRINATH, TREK: 5 HRS. DRIVE: 2 HRS
Morning after breakfast trek down Govindghat. Lunch enroute. Arrive and commence drive to Badrinath, the most important temple in north India for Hindus. Evening visit the Badrinath temple for the evening Darshanas. Dinner and overnight hotel
DAY 07: BADRINATH - RUDRAPARAYG. 6-7 HRS. DRIVE.
Morning after breakfast drive to Rudraprayag. Arrive Rudraprayag and transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight hotel.
DAY 08. RUDRAPARYAG - RISHIKESH - DELHI. DRIVE: 5-6 HRS.
Morning after breakfast drive to Rishikesh. Evening transfer to Railway station to board train for Delhi. Trip Ends:
